Devan Chung

Taiwan

My name is Devan Chung, and I am the starting point guard for West Coast Elite Under Armour 17U team this year.  I am also a recording artist who has been trained in 5 musical instruments: drum, bass, guitar, keyboard, and voice.  I have lived in six cities around the world, from Taipei to Paris to Singapore to Los Angeles to Shanghai and now back to Taipei.  Music and basketball have given me a sense of stability throughout my global ventures, and they have been the common languages that helped me make friends and assimilate into my new surroundings.  I am very grateful for the opportunities that my passions have provided, and the doors that they have opened for me in the past.  I will continue to make music and play basketball no matter where I am in the world.

John Donahue

New York, USA

My name is John Donahue and I row for Manhasset High School. I also sing for several choirs including the elite Manhasset Symphonic Choir as well as the men's choir of Manhasset Kinsmen. Rowing and music have taught me so many valuable life lessons that I will take with me throughout my entire life. Rowing is a very intense sport that requires a lot of power and strength, but also requires specific techniques and finesse. Similarly, singing requires both strength and delicacy. I have found rowing and singing to be very similar as they both require hours and hours of preparation and tireless work. These activities have helped shape me into the person that I am today. I wish to keep rowing and singing for as long as I possibly can as they have become a part of my identity.

Paige Theodosopoulos

New York, USA

My name is Paige Theodosopoulos and I swim for Manhasset High School. While swimming and athletics are a big part of my life, I am also very dedicated to the music. I am a singer in Manhasset’s elite Symphonic Choir, Manhasset Select Ensemble, the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO), as well as my church choir at Archangel Michael. Both the music and athletic programs I am involved in have been of great importance to me. They are similar in the way that they require lots of time and focus. Balancing both has given me lessons in time management as well as team building. Many people argue that swim isn’t a team sport, but it is exactly that at Manhasset. Singing, in a way, is also a team because everyone needs to do their part to form one voice. I am so lucky to be a part of each of these activities because they have formed the person I am today and I can’t imagine myself without them as a part of my life.

Chelsea Felix

New York, USA

My name is Chelsea Felix and I am an athlete at Manhasset High School. Throughout my high school career, I was on the Varsity soccer, basketball, and track team. I also sang in some of our prodigious choirs like the Manhasset Symphonic Choir, as well as a part of an acapella group called the Shirley Tempos. As a musician and an athlete, I’ve learned many valuable lessons that I can carry on after high school. Out of all my sports season, basketball resonated with me the most. It made me understand the importance of teamwork, patience, and discipline. Just like sports, music has taught me the same thing, as well as inner strength and delicacy. Sports and singing created opportunities that I will cherish forever and I plan on continuing them in the future.

Lillia Kirkwood

New York, USA

My name is Lillia Kirkwood and I play for the Manhasset High School Field Hockey team. I also sing in the Symphonic Choir as well as play various instruments in and outside of school. Music and athletics are very similar in the valuable lessons they have taught me. Field Hockey requires hard work and determination as well as a key attention to detail. Chorus is similar in a way because your choir is your team, you have to communicate to ensure teamwork. Both Field Hockey and choir require dedication and hours upon hours of work and practicing. Athletics and music have shaped me into the hard working person I am today. I will continue to make music and take the lessons from both Field Hockey and Chorus and translate them into my life.
